Best melee classes in Sword World 2.5

The strongest melee disciplines in Sword World 2.5 — frontliners, strikers and hybrids — and how to pick the right warrior for you.

3 min read

Melee is the beating heart of a Sword World 2.5 party: someone has to hold the front line so the casters can work. But "warrior" spans several distinct disciplines, from stalwart tanks to nimble duelists. This guide ranks the best melee disciplines by what they bring to a fight.

What melee needs to do

A frontliner has two jobs: deal reliable physical damage and survive being the target. Positioning does the rest — by standing in front you shield the fragile backline (see combat explained). The best melee picks excel at one or both jobs, and the right choice depends on whether you want to be a wall, a blade, or a bit of both.

The best all-round frontliner

Fighter — the armored backbone and the easiest warrior to build well. Great staying power, flexible with any weapon and armor, and never a wasted slot. If you want to be the dependable wall the party forms around, start here. Being Table A, it costs more experience but delivers.

The best precision striker

Fencer — a nimble, accurate blade specialist that trades some bulk for finesse and consistent hits. Excellent when you want to reliably land damage rather than soak it, and a natural fit as a lighter second discipline for casters who need self-defense.

The best unarmed and mobile bruisers

  • Grappler — unarmed combat and throws; controls foes as well as hurting them.
  • Battle Dancer — a mobile martial artist blending movement with offense, great for slippery positioning.
  • Physical Master — pushes the body's raw physical limits for pure athletic power.

These reward players who like an active, kinetic fighting style over a static wall.

The best specialist warriors

Samurai — a decisive blade discipline built around powerful, high-commitment strikes; devastating when it lands. Dark Hunter — a martial hunter specialized against monstrous foes, shining in campaigns full of beasts and horrors. Both are strong picks once you understand the combat flow.

Building a melee character

The classic template is a martial core plus a cheap utility discipline. Pair a frontliner with Scout for detection, or with Enhancer to buff your own body and hit even harder — see best support classes for support ideas. Because Table B levels are cheap, that second discipline is nearly free (see advancement and leveling).
